A Father’s Greatest Joy

July 18th, 2007 by Frank Zitzman

Scripture says in 3 John 1:4, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” John the Apostle wrote those words in reference to some spiritual children in his life. Seeing your spiritual children walk in truth is indeed a “great joy”. By God’s grace, I have experienced that joy with several folks that I have led to Christ through the years. But when your spiritual child is also your natural child, the joy is even more exhilarating and rewarding.

On Christmas day of 2006, I was given the following poem by my oldest daughter. To my shame, I had forgotten that my youngest son, Troy had written it. I initially sobbed with tears of remorse over that forgetfulness. But tears of refreshing joy eventually overcame the tears of sadness as I realized that my son was walking in the truth. That is indeed the greatest joy that a Christian Dad can receive from his children.

Little did Troy know that only three short years after writing this poem, he would be in the presence of the ONE who did indeed open Heaven’s gate. Oh, how we rejoice in that reality, and how we long to see him again on Heaven’s shore!! We share this poem in loving memory of our precious son’s life, and earnestly pray that all who read it will heed Troy’s advice.

You Should Love Him

He was nailed to the cross.

He gave His life for the lost.

He payed the price for our sin

So we could be washed within.

He is the ONLY way.

So please do not delay.

He opened Heaven’s gate

So make sure you’re not LATE!!
